The Huntercombe Hospital Edinburgh
What type of service are you?: We are an in patient Eating disorder service for patients referred by the NHS which is generally only for people with severe anorexia nervosa or those with threatening conditions such as anorexics with diabetes.
Where is your service is based?: We are situation in Ecclesmachan a quiet and peaceful area of West Lothian
Who do you care for (i.e. age limits)?: age 11 upwards, we have two wards, Holly for 11 – 18 and Laurel for 16+. Patients aged 16 and 17 may go into either Holly or Laurel depending upon the most appropriate peer group.
What is your catchment area ?: National, Scotland, North of England and Northern Ireland provide most of the referrals, we do have a few patients from the Channel Islands from time to time
How to get a referral: via your local NHS Mental Health Teams
If self referral what is the process?: no self referral is possible, we do not accept out patients as we are a tier 4 service
If GP/ Diabetes team referral who should be asked for?: Medical Director, Dr Sarah Cassar or C&A Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Nick Dunne
What approach and therapies are offered?: Motivational enhancement therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy are under pining philosophies but the well resourced clinical team are also equipped with skills to deal with past traumatic events, CBT and CAT where helpful.
Any Further information/ Comments?: Patients who have diabetes and anorexia nervosa are at great risk of long term harm and our approach would include an educational element in the treatment programme.
